Emilia discovered her passion for adventure travel after a midlife crisis at 45 led her to book a solo skydiving trip to New Zealand, where she connected with local Māori storytellers. As a former high school track coach with an empty nest and Italian immigrant grandparents who shared old-country tales, she found her calling in documenting disappearing folklore while pursuing adrenaline-pumping activities that challenge ageist stereotypes about what women in their 50s can do.
