George's unique perspective developed from his mixed French-Canadian and Japanese heritage, growing up in Winnipeg but spending summers with his maternal grandparents in Osaka. After earning his culinary arts degree, he worked as a food writer before moving permanently to Japan following his grandmother's death to document her traditional recipes.
