Alexander left his job as a commercial illustrator in California after a three-month artist residency in rural Japan transformed his perspective on the relationship between art, culture, and sustainability. After meeting his New Zealand-born partner during a treehouse-building workshop in Portugal, they relocated to Hamilton with their young daughter, using it as a base for exploring the Pacific region while Alexander develops art that's directly influenced by his travels. He began documenting farmers markets and unique accommodations as research for his paintings but found his travel documentation resonated more with audiences than his commercial art.
